Pool Safety For Kids
We have all heard these stories on the evening news, a parent is distracted momentarily by a burning pot on the stove, a phone call, an unexpected visitor, and in that moment, the toddler slips out back to explore the swimming pool and drowns. When you move to a home with a pool or are planning to install one in your home, you must plan for the safety of your children to avoid accidental drownings or other pool related injuries. Luckily, there are is specialized safety equipment for your swimming pool to help keep your family safe including: pool fences, door alarms, pool alarms and pool covers. All of these things combined with supervision and training can provide swimming pool safety. Nowadays it is very common for parents to teach their children a few basic swimming lessons and pool safety tips. Swimming is great exercise and fun but the child cannot be expected to prevent himself from getting drowned. Extra care needs to be taken by the parent and pool owner to ensure pool safety for kids. In United States alone, it has been observed that more than 400 children under the age of five years drown every year in the pools, most of which are in the home itself. There have been several plans and guidelines which are implemented by the governments globally to protect small children from getting drowned in the swimming pools. What you can do to keep your children safe It is essential that the parents must not leave their children unattended. There have been several instances when the child is left unattended for a few seconds and that few seconds have been long enough for him to get into the pool unobserved and drown. There are numerous things which must be prioritized to ensure safety of your child. The child must be in close surveillance at all the times when he is near a pool. The parents must be vigilant and must not leave him for even a fraction of second as that may prove to be deadly. The parents must stay within the length of an arm from the child. It would be highly recommended that you enrolled your child in a swimming course so that he is able to get his swimming lessons from the best in the business. That would also help him to be aware of the possible threats posed by water. They will also learn what steps should be taken in case of danger. The child must be asked to stay away from the pool or bodies of water like the local lake, river or canal without supervision. You can also teach him the benefits of asking help from the lifeguards in case of an emergency. The child must also be made aware of first-aid techniques and how to handle crisis situations. This can prove to be quite beneficial when it comes to water safety. The residential swimming pool must be free from all kinds of toys, games and attractive gadgets as that can bring small kids closer to the pool. Especially, when you are not present at the poolside. All the doors of the home that lead to the residential pool must be guarded by door alarms or laser alarms so that you can be alarmed when the child is in close vicinity of the pool. The height of the fence must be greater than 4 feet so that the child must not get accidentally drowned. You can also use power covers for that extra safety. There must be medical aid available at the home, at all the times. Besides, the family members must be made aware of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). You can get certified in CPR from your local Red Cross. Keep a phone and a notebook containing all the important numbers that can be useful in case of an emergency nearby the pool. This would also not divert your attention as you do not need to go to a separate room and leave your child unattended in case you get a call. As a parent, you must always be there for you child when he is in the water. Your presence can make a lot of difference, and ensure years of happiness with your swimming pool.
