Magical Adventures with Grandma Emma Teach Kids to Enjoy Life's Surprises

The trio's adventure "Through the Rug" happens when Grandma Emma tries to create a potion for "more days in a week" and accidentally spills some of it on the kitchen rug. When Grandma Emma bends down to clean the rug, she falls right through it and disappears. Alyssa and Domino quickly follow and find themselves in the magic land of Wishville, where all wishes are granted.
In Wishville, Alyssa and Grandma Emma find that they can have whatever their hearts desire. They eat as much as they want without becoming full, Alyssa dances with a professional ballet company and they visit a theme park where they ride every attraction for free. "Through the Rug" is an enchanting story that will stretch young readers' imaginations while providing a fun reminder about the importance of spending time with family and loved ones. One of Vanderwood's own granddaughters is named Alyssa. Vanderwood began writing "Through the Rug" when Alyssa was 8 years old and finally published it when she was 13. More of Vanderwood's grandchildren will appear in her second book, "Follow the Dog," a sequel to "Through the Rug." "Follow the Dog" will be available this fall.
