Getting Kids to Drink More Water
It's important to get kids to drink plenty of water, but if you've allowed them to have lots of sweet drinks they will naturally prefer those. The best idea is not to have sweet drinks in the house, then there will be no choice but to drink water when they are thirsty.
But how can you get them to drink more when it's hot and they have been running around? Kids will usually drink enough water naturally, but here are a few tricks to encourage those who are slow to drink plain water.
Offer them water in a brightly coloured water bottle with their favourite cartoon character on it. Little kids love colour and it may be enough to convince them it tastes sweet. If they love coloured drinks, add a dash of food colouring to the water, and make sure it is in a clear bottle so they can see the colour.
Add ice cubes to the water, or just offer them small ice cubes to munch on. Ice cubes fascinate many children. You can even colour them with food colouring. Keep a bottled water in the fridge that is specially theirs. If they are old enough to pour their own from a jug, let them do so. Some kids will like to open the door and pour themselves a drink because it is just what they see mum or dad doing.
